The String Quartet, Part 3 – Debussy and beyond
10 Weeks-(9/12- 11/14)
Mondays 1:00 – 2:30PM ONLINE ZOOM
We continue the exploration of the string quartet in the late 19th century, as Debussy and others prefigured the changes happening after the turn of the century. We will touch briefly on some less familiar figures in this genre such as Tchaikovsky, Hugo Wolf, and even Giuseppe Verdi. The masterworks of the 20th century continue with Ravel and include composers such as Samuel Barber, noted for the Adagio movement in his quartet. We will also compare recordings of different quartets playing the same pieces and discuss the quartet style and life in a quartet.
Facilitator: Robert Hoffman
