Outer Landscape / Inner Likeness: Landscape Painting in art history

5 Weeks (TERM 2: 10/20 – 11/17)

Thursdays 3:00 – 4:30PM ONLINE ZOOM

This course will explore landscape painting from its origins as objective background material in ancient, medieval, and early Renaissance art to its power as an independent subject in the 18th and 19th centuries, and finally to its use in modern art in the 20th century. Each class will offer about 35 specific works of art and participants will have handouts to follow along and a list of the art shown. No experience with art history is required as the class will be an introduction to the history of western art. Facilitator: Nancy Baker
